Well I finally got a version of kde and ubuntu working on my new Lenovo Legion 5 laptop. Originally I wanted to install kubuntu 24.10 on it, but the boot process kept hanging when it would get to launching the login manager. After trying several other distro that were kde based I actually figured out that if I installed Ubuntu 24.10 with Gnome, that it would boot and load the drivers correctly for the Optimus Nvidia graphics. Afterwards I was able to install the full kde package and so far all seems to be working correctly. I’m really not sure why the KDE login manager was failing when the Gnome one that came with Ubuntu didn’t. I’ve gotten syncthing working to syncronize my obsidian notebooks and have been slowly shrinking my windows 11 partiion as I move files over from it to my linux install. The only thing I haven’t worked out is my music software. I have a lot of tools, plugins, and software that works right in windows 11 and doesn’t work worth a damn in Linux so I’m probably going to have to leave at least a small partition for when I want to make music. if anyone asks I’d be willing to help out if they have issues getting Linux going on their Lenovo legion laptop with the dual graphics cards. Hit me up over on mastodon of you need help.
